Tigers Eye is a chatoyant gemstone, usually colored golden to red-brown and has a silky sheen. It is a member of the Quartz family and a combination of Quartz and iron with banded layers of Red Jasper, Hematite and Tiger’s Eye. Tiger Iron is a metamorphic rock which is formed by the tectonic activities of the earth. This special combination of stones formed more than 2.2 billion years ago was originally found in Western Australia, but can also be found in places including Madagascar, Mexico, South Africa, and the USA. Although this mineral is rare, because of its attractive color combination of red, golden and black stripes, Tiger Iron is often used in jewelry and ornaments. Tiger iron is sometimes called mugglestone, to the surprise and delight of Harry Potter fans everywhere!
